Volcanic Eruption in Iceland
Photographed by Ragnar Th Sigurdsson / Arctic Images
Eyjafjallajokull's eruption lights up the Icelandic sky. It was an awesome spectacle, but the ash that followed created a global mess.

Eruption of Eyjafjallajökull Volcano, Iceland : Natural Hazards
Ash from Iceland’s erupting Eyjafjallajökull Volcano had drifted over northern Europe by April 16, 2010. The brown ash is mixed with clouds in this photo-like image taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite at 12:45 p.m. local time (GMT +2). The visible ash sweeps in an arc across the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Russia. It is likely that the clouds mask additional ash.
The airborne ash grounded flights across much of northern and western Europe starting on April 15. As the ash moved south, more countries began to close their airspace. Fine volcanic ash can clog jet engines, causing the engines to stall. Many airports anticipated remaining closed through Saturday, April 17, reported BBC News. Ash had been reported over Norway, Sweden, northwestern Russia, northern Poland, northern Germany, northern France and the southern United Kingdom, said the Icelandic Met Office.
Eyjafjallajökull began its eruption on March 20, 2010, after 187 years of quiet. On April 14, the volcano began a more forceful eruption, emitting plumes of ash. As of April 16, the eruption was still ongoing, with ash reaching heights of four to five kilometers, said the Icelandic Met Office. The volcano’s previous eruption lasted just over a year between December 1821 and January 1823.
The large image is the highest resolution version of the image available. The image is available in additional resolutions from the MODIS Rapid Response System, which also provides daily images of Iceland.

Eruption of Eyjafjallajökull Volcano, Iceland April 17 on Flickr - Ash cloud seen from satellite
The MODIS instrument on NASA's Aqua satellite captured an Ash plume from Eyjafjallajokull Volcano over the North Atlantic at 13:20 UTC (9:20 a.m. EDT) on April 17, 2010.The Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland erupted Wednesday, April 14, for the second time this month. The volcano is still spewing ash into the air and the ash clouds are impacting air travel in Northern Europe.

NurtureMusic.biz: Trio Vadim Federov
© 2009 Sigurdór Guðmundsson. All rights reserved.
Here's a photo I took of the Vadim Federov Trio. They then used it on their latest CD.
Trio Vadim Fyodorov becomes its name from the band founder, the russian acordion virtuos Vadim Fyodorov. In the band's repertory is jazz music with a france touch and some russian folk songs. This music fits both as backgroundmusic as well as for entertaining purpose.
Along with Vadim the band is formed by Gunnar Hilmarsson on guitar and Leifur Gunnarsson on doublebass. Vadim was born in St. Petersburg in 1969. He started playing acordion 6 years old at music school, then at the Rimsky Korsakov music collage. Vadim has been living in Iceland last 10 years and is on of the best active acordionist in Iceland.
The band recently released it's first album "Papillions Noirs".

Augun opnast (Eyes wide open)
A song for all the people who say they know the answers to all the big questions about our existence, f. ex. happiness, god, eternal live and free will. Written by one who is still searching.
Running a Motorway
Everything is for sale - Those who fight for their vision can be bought for the right price. Name yours...
Póstkort (Postcard)
A song for all the young and over enthusiastic people who seek to make this world a better place. Next time they by a T-shirt from one of the big fashion designers with Che Guevara's face on the front, they should take a moment and think about the children in various sweat-shops around the world who slave to make them, for nickels and dimes.
Last Chance to Say Goodbye
The song is – quite obviously - about the thoughts that go through your head when you say goodbye to somebody for the last time.
12 Steps to the Liquor Store
You try hard to hide from temptation and stay on the straight road of clean living. But temptation creeps up when you the least expect it and knocks on your door!

---------------------------
So! 1 year on flickr! It's been a great learning experience and will most likely continue to be!
I bought a Nikon D80 camera (with the "Nikon DX AF-S 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 ED" lens) in october last year and joined flickr shortly there after. The first pictures were uploaded in early november 2006.
To begin with I shot in jpeg format and was mostly using auto or aperture priority settings on the camera. Editing (if any) was done in the Picasa software or in the camera.
In march/april 2007 I started to experiment with the RAW/NEF format and haven't looked back since. Around the same time I also started using the Lightroom software to edit and convert the NEF files (and also upload to flickr).
Last summer I bought the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D and the "Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO" lenses along with the "Nikon Speelight SB-600" flash.
I also started using (the cameras) manual mode almost exclusively.
Then in late last September I bought the "Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM" lens.
Recently I also started using the Nikon Capture NX editing software and I like it a lot, even though it's a bit heavy on my current laptop. I usually start out by editing the NEF files in Capture, then I'll convert them to TIFF and import into Lightroom where I do some extra editing/tweaking (if needed) and then I'll convert to JPEG and upload to flickr.
SO! I feel like I'm slowly learning and improving by constantly experimenting and by trial and error. Hope I'll continue to do so.
My flickr page is not supposed to be a showcase of my best work/pictures. It's also for general family pictures and ("documentary") stuff like that.
2,112 photos and 25,128 (profile?) views.... I'm not sure what the numbers mean... just for fun I guess. ;-)
So I hope you can find something in my stream that you can enjoy for whatever reason.
Feel free to explore my sets and collections.
See you around flickr!

Þarna má sjá tvær af myndunum mínum, sem hafa náð inn á svo kallaða "Intressingness" og/eða "Explore" síðu(r) hjá Flickr. Flickr mælir "vinsældir" myndana eftir kúnstarinnar reglum og myndirnar mínar komust sem sagt (a.m.k.) inn á Explore top 500, sem þýðir að þær voru inni á þeim lista á einhverjum tímapunkti. Ekkert svo ýkja merkilegt í sjálfu sér, en engu að síður gaman að nördast í þessu.
Þessi mynd hér, hefur einnig stoppað stuttlega á þessum lista.
Hér má svo sjá safn þeirra mynda minna sem þykja hvað "mest atyglisverðar/vinsælar", nú eða sjá settið hér.
